The trip from Low Head to Bridport can include a visit to the seal colony on Tenth Island. Conditions can be quite rough in NW winds. In these condition experienced sea kayakers can have a good sail. The trip can be broken up into a number of one day trips for inexperienced people. There are some long sandy beaches to cover but interesting features include, pillow lavas, big sand dunes at East and West Sandy Cape, a beautiful campsite at St Albans Bay and the good possibility of seeing dolphins or even whales in September.
There are virtually no tides to worry about and supplies can be purchased at Beachford, Weymouth, and Lulworth on the journey. Good commercial campsite can be found at Low Head, Weymouth and Bridport. Adventurous kayakers can also visit Ninth Island which is about 12km off East Sandy Cape. Landing is on a rocky shore.
